Who We Are. . .
Surf Lifesaving del
Sur is a non-profit organization founded by career
lifeguards Jimmy Canale and Laine Pepper in
2006. The dream of professional
lifesaving services for the Baja Peninsula, one
Jimmy and Laine have shared through 25 years of
surfing its often treacherous coastline, became a
reality with our first lifeguard academy in Cabo
San Lucas in September of 2004. More than a
dozen academies later, we have successfully
trained and equipped a core group of lifeguards
from the ranks of both Los Cabos fire departments,
as well as members of the Red Cross and dozens of
hotel security personnel. Critical
lifesaving rescues have already been performed by
graduates of the program, realizing our dream of
"one life saved".
As lifeguards, we
feel that any preventable drowning is
unacceptable, and continue conducting training and
equipping lifesavers in Los Cabos through the
dedication of our volunteers and the gracious
commitment of the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department.
Surf Lifesaving del
Sur's vision is to continue expanding the training
and response of existing lifeguards, while
elevating lifesaving personnel and equipment to
the professional level, providing Los Cabos
residents and visitors with an international
standard in aquatic safety. Through
public education and information, we intend to
further our impact in drowning
prevention. Ultimately, our efforts
will be to create perpetual funding for lifesaving
services in Los Cabos through aquatic programs,
government and corporate sponsorship, and private
donations.
